Soccer Tournament and Math Games

Schools are interesting places.  If you asked the question, "What happens at school?, the obvious answer would be that students learn stuff.  If you asked a teacher or a principal, "What do students learn?" We would likely pull out a large document that has the word curriculum somewhere in the title, but neither of these replies fully answer the wide variety of activities and methods that support learning.  As you will see in the pictures that follow, some learning that occurs in schools happens outside of the official curriculum.  The skills that are necessary to participate in a soccer tournament are not defined by the official curriculum, but they are important skills that are taught by staff and volunteers and students learn them.  Math games are a different way of reinforcing math skills, so fun in fact that students may not realize they are learning and reinforcing their math skills.  At CCS, we use a variety activities and methods to encourage and support learning because we recognize that God has created individuals with unique gifts and interests and He places us in community.  Through these activities, we honour our students as image bearers of God, strengthen their gifts, overcome heir  weaknesses and help them to learn to live in a community.
